Mitchel/Boherbee Community Regeneration Project

In 2004, Tralee Town Council identified the Mitchel Boherbee area of the town as being in need of major regeneration to deal with the underlying physical, economic and social problems that have affected the area to an increasing extent in recent years.

The overall regeneration area includes approximately 700 households, the vast majority of which have been provided by the Local Authority, over the past 75 years.  The statutory and non-statutory agencies in Tralee, together with the local community have worked closely together over the past number of years to develop an overall framework for the improvement and regeneration of this area.  The agencies, the Town Council and the local community continue to work together through the Mitchel/Boherbee Community Participation Task Group and the Mitchel/Boherbee Community Regeneration Steering Committee to ensure the objectives of the framework plan for regeneration are achieved. All parties involved in the regeneration process are working towards the same goal of making sure we have a strong, sustainable community.  New developments proposed for the area will offer a better choice of different types of accommodation, where the wider community will also benefit from the development of an integrated services building, various environmental improvements, remedial works schemes and the development of community allotments.

Housing and the regeneration project is a long term investment for the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Tralee Town Council and the local community.  We intend to make sure all new developments help sustain a good living environment with high design standards.
