Released: 11 October 2011
Tralee Farmers’ Market has been operating on Prince’s Quay every Saturday since the 17th of September and has been a great success so far, despite suffering some of the worst weather the Kingdom can offer. The market will be officially launched by Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht at 11am on this Saturday 15th October.
The market offers the people of Tralee an opportunity to buy top quality local food and crafts directly from the producer, which means that it is good news all round for producers, customers and the local economy and environment. The market also adds a new social dimension to the town by providing a great opportunity for people to catch up and do their weekly shop in a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere than the normal supermarket setting. Because you are buying face to face from the producer, they are more than happy to tell you all about their produce and traceability is never a problem.
The market currently offers local crafts, fruit and vegetables, beef and poultry, eggs, meat and fish pies, plants and herbs, confectionery, home baking, cupcakes and a range of other surprises and treats. New stalls coming on line this weekend include speciality breads and locally caught fish. The market will be going all out this Saturday with music, face-painting, balloons and lots of tasty bites for customers to try as they walk around and soak up the ambience.
