
The town of Tralee supports a rich natural environment including the Lee Valley, the Town Park and Rose Garden, Oakpark Wood, the Ship Canal, River Lee, Big River and associated wildlife habitats and recreational spaces. In recent years the Council, working with local communities, has developed a network of community parks including the Manor Village Linear Park, Castlemorris Peace Park, Christ the King Park in Ballymullen. The riverside walk and cycleway along the River Lee from Ballyard to Ballymullen is the first phase of an ambitious plan to link Blennerville in the west to Ballyseedy Wood in the east. Meanwhile, plans are at an advanced stage to develop the Lee Valley Activity and Nature Park at Ballyard.
Tralee Town Park is a 35 acre green oasis in the town centre. 2010 sees the completion of a 5-year €3m investment plan in the park with the provision of a new playground, tranquility fountain, Rose of Tralee Memorial, community garden, footpaths and new wrought iron railing which enhance the award winning Garden of the Senses and Rose Garden. The plan is to link the town park with the nearby Lee Valley and riverwalk. In March 2010 work commenced on the Big River walk.
The Council has been instrumental in supporting local sports clubs provide playing pitches and other facilities for young people.

Tralee Town Council view tourism as one of the key drivers of economic development in the town. Tourism now support 500+ jobs locally. The Council was the prime mover in the restoration of Blennerville Windmill and Tralee Steam Railway, the development of Kerry County Museum and Medieval Experience and Jeanie Johnston tall ship project. It provided sites for the Aqua Dome waterworld and Siamsa Tíre National Folk Theatre. In 2009 the Kerry County Museum won the Irish Museum of the Year Award. During 2010 the Council is seeking to further enhance Traleeās tourism infrastructure with the development of the Lee Valley Activity and Nature Park focusing on the rich natural heritage of the Tralee Bay area.
